Gāyatrī Mantra
One of the most sacred mantras of the Vedas, the Gāyatrī (also called Sāvitrī Mantra) appears in the Rigveda (Mandala 3, hymn 62, verse 10) and is attributed to the sage Viśvāmitra. It is dedicated to Savitr, the Vedic solar deity who stimulates and illuminates consciousness. Recited with the prefix oṃ and the mahāvyāhṛti (bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ — earth, mid-space, heaven), it is a prayer for divine light to illumine the intellect and inspire understanding.

The Panchakshara (five-syllable) mantra at the heart of Shaivism: na-maḥ-śi-vā-ya, "I bow to Shiva" or "obeisance to the auspicious one." It appears in the Krishna Yajur Veda within the Sri Rudram (Rudraprasna, Namakam) and is central to Shaiva Siddhanta and Siddha Shaivism. In tradition, the five syllables are associated with the five elements (earth, water, fire, air, space) and with Shiva’s cosmic form. Chanting is said to purify the mind, steady attention, and invoke Shiva’s grace.

A sacred invocation to Shiva from the Maha Narayana Upanishad (also called the Yajniki Upanishad), belonging to the Krishna Yajur Veda. Shivopasana means "worship of Shiva." The mantra comprises eleven aspects of Shiva, each invoked twice — once as the deity (e.g. Nidhanapata) and once as the linga form (e.g. Nidhanapatāntika) — followed by a closing verse that declares this "hand-mantra" of Soma and Surya to establish all lingas and to be pure. It is recited for peace, prosperity, health, and devotion.
